A holiday read “A Life Without Limits” sat by the lake in beautiful sunshine in Thailand pushed me towards triathlon. Chrissie Wellington had truly inspired me. In the same year London hosted the 2012 Olympics and I was working hard in the Lloyds Banking Group head office planning commuter routes in and out of the city.
I absolutely thrived off the busy beaming London experience and was regularly sprinting out of each set of traffic lights on the bike trying to beat the boys! I raced my first competitive triathlon, most notably the London Triathlon, in 2012. I did have a little triathlon experience prior to this however, I won the Senior ‘Ironman Champion’ trophy at school in 2005.
I have raced in London every year since 2012 and in 2014 my name was announced along with a TV camera pointed at me as I dived into the water on the elite start line. This has certainly been a highlight but more importantly to me are the articles, school sports award presentations and events that I have been invited to attend. Chrissie Wellington has been an icon to both athletes and non athletes, it is inspiring. Later this month (June 2015) my husband and I have inspired our younger family to take part in the Norwich Junior Triathlon at Hewett School, we wish them the best of luck on their ‘first tri’!
So where did the previous 2 years go? I was fortunate enough to share my vision and ambition with my bosses at Lloyds Banking Group, who also believed in me and granted me a 4 year career break. I have moved back to North Norfolk with my husband. I grew up in North Norfolk and soon joined our local triathlon club, Tri-Anglia (Triathlon England Club of the Year 2013). Woodlands Leisure, in Bodham, kindly support my love for chlorine as do Wensum Pools where I have access to an excellent Endless Pool which is perfect for open water practice in the wetsuit. I work for the Award Winning Hot Tub and Swimming Pool Supplier, Wensum Pools, based in South Raynham (also known as our family run business!)
I absolutely love what I do, always have done and always will. From Loughborough hockey to the world of taking my Mathematics degree to the big City of London. I look forward to working with all of our support team including Intelligent Triathlon Training (ITT). Mark Pearce, from ITT, and I have been working together since the winter months. I appreciate his support and passion towards my goals. We are realistically aligned and I look forward to our future.
